After a layoff in 2003, she started Virtual Works after finding there was a huge market for outsourced administrative services. Through extensive relationship building in the early years, her practice was full by mid-2005. She is a speaker, mentor and advocate for the Virtual Assistant profession, and is the proud co-founder of The Ottawa Virtual Alliance, an association for VA’s in the Ottawa area. Barb was awarded the Master Virtual Assistant designation in August 2007 and continues to manage her Multi-VA practice, delivering administrative services to many different industries locally, nationally and internationally. Barb had the great honour of being a finalist for the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Professional Services of the Year Award in 2007, and recently earned the CAPM credential from the Project Management Institute. Barbara is also a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (Ottawa Chapter), and proudly serves on their board as Director of Administration. After many postings in Canada and abroad with her husband, they settled in Ottawa in 1994. Her husband has since retired from the Air Force and they live in Barrhaven with their beloved 6-year old Border Collie, Archie. |
